It’s been lovely to see the collective excitement of being back at school and the start of Term 2.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Autumn holiday.
Special thanks to our student leaders and families for taking time out of their break to represent our school community at the Malabar RSL Sub-Branch ANZAC Commemoration at Bob Clarke Memorial Park.
A very big thank you to P&C and the amazing group of volunteers who ran the election day democracy sausage sizzle on the weekend.
Thanks also to the many families for the donations to the cake stall.
It was certainly lots of fun and a lovely way to connect as a community.
Time is a precious commodity, and your generous support is always greatly appreciated.

Homework – a reminder
Homework helps to consolidate what we have been learning in class.
Homework will always include home reading. Please ensure you listen to your child read… this is called reinforced reading and is important for all reading levels.
Public speaking tasks are scaffolded. These scaffolding prompts can then be used as flash cards for class presentations.
A key to homework success is being organised.
A great tip to avoid those last minute meltdowns is to set regular times and routine, ideally a little each day.
Your child’s teacher would be delighted to talk to you further if you have any questions.
Co Curricular
Term 2 co curricular recommenced this week. The co curricular note has been sent home… it’s certainly not too late to sign up!
If you have any questions about co curricular, please contact Mrs Carroll and/or your child's teacher.
P&C Mother’s Day Events – Thursday 8 May
P&C have been busy organising tomorrow’s Mother’s Day events.
As usual the Mother’s Day Stall will be held during the day.
The gifts will be priced between $2 and $10.
P&C will also be running a raffle. Raffle tickets can be purchased for $1 each and will be available at the Mother’s Day Stall.
Named money bags have been sent home for our K-2 students to help ensure that the money arrives and any change can be returned securely.
Bookending tomorrow, P&C are also inviting our amazing mums & carers to:
- Yoga – Library (bring a mat), 8am-8:45am
- Zumba – Hall, 2:15pm-2:45pm
Students are welcome to attend the Yoga and Zumba classes though need to be supervised by mums and carers.

NSW Public Schools Student Survey
In Term 2 our school is taking part in the NSW Public Schools Student Survey.

Please look out for the information and opt-out form.
Participation in the survey is voluntary.

Library lessons have re-commenced in Term 2 after a very successful Term 1. The number of books that were borrowed (and returned) was outstanding to see! A reminder to please ensure students have their library bag on their allocated day to borrow a book. This ensures our books are kept safe and clean.
Students are also enjoying the Premier’s Reading Challenge. Students in K-2 have been completing the challenge in the library and in class with their teachers. Students in 3-6 are completing their independent challenge during library lessons and at home. For more information visit https://online.education.nsw.gov.au/prc/home.html
Scholastic Book Club Issue 3 has been handed out. Payments are online only.
The month of May is Scholastic National Family Reading Month. All children, with the help of their families and reading role models, can benefit from a lifelong love of reading. Take on the Scholastic Challenge to read just 10 minutes a day together and go into the draw to win $1000 to spend on books or donate to a Children’s Charity. Year 2
In Science, Year 2 used their knowledge of forces to design and make an arcade game at home for their Term 1 project.

Science Enrichment Group
The Chifley scientists explored different solutes to determine if they were soluble or insoluble by adding them to a solvent (water or ethanol). They worked well in teams to answer scientific questions.
