National Reconciliation Week continued to remind us that positive relationships really do matter.
Congratulations to all our Reconciliation Week award recipients last week and thank you to the many parents & carers who were able to join us for the assembly… the children are always excited to see you at our school events.
A particular mention to Olive, Ieshah and Destini for helping us learn a little bit more about the importance of reconciliation and the Saltwater Dancers who performed at both the Reconciliation Week assembly and Koojay Corroboree (see photo gallery).
It’s a busy term!
The debating season announced itself yesterday with Round 1 debates against Banksmeadow. Our Green and Gold teams sound like they thoroughly enjoyed the day (see photo gallery)!
We’re looking forward to the Multicultural Public Speaking stage finals over the next week. Stage winners will progress to the local finals later this term.

Stage 2 Spelling Bee:

Stage 3 Spelling Bee:

Student Attendance
A very big thank you to everyone for contacting the school to explain absences (including late arrivals) and responding to our text messaging service.
It’s greatly appreciated and allows us to adjust attendance rolls to ensure absences are appropriately recorded.
Disabled Parking - Reminder
Randwick Council has installed a new disabled parking bay at the front of the school on Mitchel St. This complements the 2 bays in the Mitchell St carpark.
These bays are for authorised permit holders only.
P&C
As a reminder, the next P&C meeting is tomorrow, Thursday 5 June at 5.30pm in the library.
Involvement in the P&C is encouraged and is a fabulous way to become actively involved in our school.
New P&C members are always welcome.
The CPS P&C can be contacted at chifleypcinfo@gmail.com.

Maths Olympiad
Our Stage 3 Maths Olympiad students had fun answering the following question from Channel 7's show, 'The 1% Club'.
There are 100 people at Sue's party.
She puts out some sausage rolls.
Half the adults take 3 each and three quarters of the kids take 2 each until there are none left.
How many sausage rolls did Sue put out?
Can you answer the question?
If you can't, find one of our friendly Maths Olympiad Students to help you out!"
Debating Workshop
Last month, 8 students from Stage 3 attended a Debating workshop at Ramsgate Public School. Congratulations to Lana who won the Celebrity Debating Game on behalf of our school as "Mr Beast".
National Simultaneous Storytime
Two weeks ago, we were one of 16 632 participating locations who shared a reading of 'The Truck Cat' by Deborah Frenkel and illustrated by Danny Snell as part of National Simultaneous Storytime.

Koojay Corroboree
Our Saltwater dancers gave an incredible performance at the Koojay Corroboree last week. They really made us proud!

Debating Round 1 at Banksmeadow PS
Yesterday, the amazing Chifley debating teams competed in Round 1 of the Premier's Debating Challenge against Banksmeadow PS.
The Gold Team were affirmative in the debate "That we should ban all homework in primary schools". They performed well in what was a close debate.
The Green team then debated the topic "That every class in primary school should adopt a dog or cat as a class pet". They were the negative side in this debate and were successful in winning their first ever debate.
Mrs Morrell was extremely proud of the teamwork, creative thinking and good sportsmanship that all students displayed.

Science Enrichment Group
The Science Enrichment Group explored pH levels in every day substances and other compounds to determine whether they were acidic, alkaline or neutral. To do this, they conducted an experiment.
Students boiled red cabbage & used the cabbage water as an indicator. They then added the various compounds to the cabbage water and observed the colour change. Colours were compared to a pH colour scale to determine the pH level. Check out the colours that were produced!
