With Term 2 drawing to a close on Friday, a big well done to everyone for caring and caring for each other over the course of the term.
School culture is a behaviour… congratulations to the many students who attended the Principal’s Good News Lunch this week!
I hope all our families have a lovely mid-year break and I look forward to seeing everyone reconnecting with their teachers and friends at the start of Term 3, Tuesday 22 July.
Student Reports
The Semester 1 student reports are now available on the School Bytes parent portal.
This is a new school report format developed by the NSW DoE and planned to make the reports easier to read and understand.
Teacher comments will appear in English, Mathematics and the general comment section.
A new achievement scale and descriptions are included to provide a clearer picture of your child’s progress.
Syllabus outcomes are used as key reference points for decisions about student performance and progress.
Year 1-6 student performance is reported against a 1-5 grade scale.
Of course, please contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions.
If you haven’t already registered with School Bytes, please open the parent portal link - https://portal.schoolbytes.education/auth/login or scan the QR code:
To ensure that the registration process works smoothly, make sure you also use the same email address that you have provided to the school.
Colleen, Angela and Renee are always available if you would like any assistance creating an account.
Parents & carers can certainly request a hardcopy of the report by contacting your child’s teacher.
Ben Chifley Art Exhibition
The Ben Chifley Art Exhibition holds a significant place in our school calendar.
Congratulations to all our entrants for helping us celebrate the Visual Arts and well done to the Saltwater Dancers and our Hip Hop, Zumba and Showcase performers.
We look forward to the Young Archibald at the end of next term.
Thank you to the many parents & carers who braved the conditions – a noticeably stoic effort!
See photo gallery below.
Athletics Carnival – Track
Due to the weather conditions, we had to postpone our athletics carnival until Friday.
Friday's weather forecast looks far more favourable.
Students are to wear their sports uniform and/or house colours and running shoes.
eSafety Parents
With the holidays almost upon us, eSafetyparents is a well worth a visit if you’re looking for advice about helping children navigate the online world.
The advice is current and parent & carer webinars are free.
Holiday Reading
It’s important to set consistent expectations around home reading – even during the holidays.
Happy reading and please see your child’s teacher if you have any questions about levelling home readers.
As Principal of Chifley PS, I believe in strong educational partnerships. My office door is always open if you would like to discuss any aspect of your child’s education.

The Quest Writing Program
The Quest adventurers explored a fascinating book called The Mysteries of Harris Burdick by Chris Van Allsburg. This is a collection of 14 illustrations with an accompanying title and caption. The illustrations were meant to be accompanied by their stories, but the stories were never handed in. Therein lies the mystery. The students were asked to choose an illustration that they felt drawn to & write their own story or description inspired by the illustration.
Here is Maya's choice of illustration, her writing & her own illustration:
'Just Desert...
Styla Stoon, witch of the moon
is left completely deranged
Her husband Hank has left today
and now, Styla Stoon has changed...
Confusion and anger has taken over
and she is as angry as a snake.
Then a plan forms in her mind.
She says, "Now this will be easy to make..."
*Rat droppings!
*A touch of hag's cackle!
*Warlock's saliva!
*And, the beak of a frackle!
This is all Styla Stoon needs.
Now she mixes up her potion.
"Oh! I almost forgot
to add the suntan lotion!"
She invites dear Hank to her hut
as an apology plan.
But what Hank doesn't know
is that she has poisoned the tea...'

Student Achievement
Congratulations to Sophie D who participated in Sydney East Primary Girls Football Trials!
Year 1
Year 1 has been learning about the weather and seasons. They used recycled materials to make their own rain guages and tested them out last week to see how much it rained.

Science Enrichment Group
The Chifley scientists had fun observing colour changes in flames in their most recent lab lesson. To conduct this experiment, they placed 5 different types of chloride (Barium Chloride, Potassium Chloride, Copper Chloride, Sodium Chloride & Strontium Chloride) onto the flame & observed the colourful changes. They then repeated the experiment with magnesium.

Dear Parents & Carers,
P&C has requested that Code 4 Fun run a before school coding programme for Year 3-6 students.
This would not be a school based cocurricular activity and there would be a cost in attending the programme. Code 4 Fun requires a minimum number of students to proceed.
Please note, coding and robotics are already built into our weekly classroom timetables. Code 4 Fun is merely an additional request from P&C which I am very happy to accommodate if parents are interested.
As this is an externally run programme, Code 4 Fun will need to be contacted directly.
P&C have subsidised the cost of the programme.
We have a piano - free to a family who would enjoy the use of it.
Please contact the office if you're interested or would like to take a look at it first.
Happy Holidays! See you back at school on Tuesday 22 July!
